So, let’s talk about that mountain of books we call our TBR list. You know, the one that’s taller than your coffee table and has more titles than your local library? Yeah, that one! If you’re like me, your TBR list is a mix of “I’ll read that someday” and “Why did I even buy that?” So, how do we tackle this beast without losing our sanity (or our love for reading)?

Buckle up, because I’m about to share some tips on how to tackle your TBR list (until you buy more!)

1. Embrace the Chaos

First things first: accept that your TBR list will never be fully conquered. Just when you think you’ve got it all sorted, another book magically appears! So, throw your hands up and say, “I’m a proud member of the TBR Club!” No shame here!

2. Set Realistic Goals

Let’s be honest: if your goal is to read 50 books in a month, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Instead, aim for something more achievable, like reading one book per week. Or, you know, just reading the back cover of a book counts too, right? It’s all about progress!

3. Use the “Read and Reward” System

Who doesn’t love a good reward? For every book you finish, treat yourself! Maybe it’s a slice of cake, a cheeky ice cold glass of Coke with lemon (boujee or what) or a Netflix binge session. Just make sure the reward is proportional to the effort. Finishing a 600-page epic? Cake it is! Reading a 100-page romance? Maybe just a cookie. You don’t want to go overboard and end up in a sugar coma!

4. Join a Book Club (or Start One!)

Nothing motivates you to read like the fear of being the only one who hasn’t finished the book! Join a book club, and suddenly you’ll find yourself racing to keep up. Plus, you get to discuss the book with friends, which is basically like a group therapy session for book lovers. Just remember: no spoilers, or you’ll face the wrath of your fellow readers!

5. Ditch the Guilt And DNF

Feeling guilty about not reading that classic you bought three years ago? Toss that guilt out the window! Life’s too short to read books you’re not enjoying. If you’re not feeling it, move on! If I don't enjoy the book by page 50- BYE!

There are plenty of other fish in the literary sea. Just think of it as a “literary cleanse.”

6. Use Audiobooks as a Sneaky Hack

Can’t find the time to sit down with a book? Enter audiobooks! You can listen while you cook, clean, or even while pretending to work. It’s like multitasking, but with more plot twists and fewer spreadsheets. Plus, you can totally pretend you’re a sophisticated intellectual while driving in traffic!

7. Create a TBR Jar

Feeling overwhelmed by choices? Write down all the titles on your TBR list and toss them into a jar. Whenever you’re ready to read, pull one out at random! It’s like a literary lottery, and who doesn’t love a good surprise? Just be prepared for the occasional “What was I thinking?” moment.

Enjoy the Journey!

At the end of the day, remember that reading is supposed to be fun! So, take a deep breath, grab a book (or three), and dive into the wonderful world of stories.

Your TBR list may be daunting, but with a little humour and creativity, you’ll find a way to enjoy the journey.
